This paper points out an equivalence between point-symmetric models for two-way tables and the classical log-linear models for three-way tables. This equivalence simplifies the application of the point-symmetric models, since they can be fitted through standard log-linear models for three-way tables. Further on a GLIM procedure is developed for the fit of point-symmetric models. The point-symmetric models are used for the analysis of a set of two 3?3 contingency tables. The models are fit through the developed GLIM procedure as well as through log-linear models for three-way tables, demonstrating their equivalence. The latter application requires the use of structural zeros.en
