Επίδραση των μυκητοκτόνων στους μικροβιακούς δείκτες μόλυνσης (E.Coli, E.Feacalis) των υδάτων και στη Salmonella Typhi (Bachelor thesis)

This experimental study investigates the effects of the fungicides Dodin,Corbendazim, Ziram and Copper Hydroxide on the microbial indicators of waterpollution Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis and Salmonella typhi.According to the European Union legislation, the upper permissible limit, forpesticide residues in drinking water, is 0.1 mg/L whereas for the total of thesecompounds is 0.5 mg/L.Pesticide concentrations in solutions, applied in this study, were in the upperpermissible limit 0.1 mg/L (UPL) and at 10 x (1.0 mg/L), 100 x (10.0 mg/L) and 1000x (100.0 mg/L), folds of the UPL.Micro-organisms grown in fungicide solutions as above were examinedregarding their short-term and long-term growth data, their morphology in selectivematerials, their biochemical properties and their resistance in antibiotics. Results ofthe experimental procedure are recorded in the following tables (Tables Β.10, Β.11,Β.12, Β.13.).Microbial indicators behavior, in the presence of fungicides, presentedstatistically major changes in growth curve, colony forming morphology in selectivematerials, biochemical properties and antibiotic resistance.Accordingly, misleading data on microbial indicators of water pollution due topesticide originating interferences may produce inappropriate legislation anddirectives and result to ineffective practices regarding environmental and waterprotection.Therefore it reveals that there may be need for correction factors, in estimatingwater pollution and contamination, in relation to coexisting biocides or even otherenvironmental pollutants such as metals or other environmental disruptors.Water is a sensitive resource and pollution, that aquatic eco-systems aresubjected nowadays, may probably go on for generations. The control indicators ofmicrobiological quality of water make up one of the most basic factors for theirsustainable management.
